What is Data?
Data is made up of different combinations of symbols all of which are done in many different ways. Some of these are
Data types give data a structure by using Numbers, Symbols and characters. Putting a D.O.B gives it structure e.g 31/05/13 as it uses numbers and symbols.

Boolean
Data stored as "Boolean" form can only be 1 or 2 available values. If you think of a light switch - It's on or off.

Alphanumeric
Alphanumeric data is a combination of letters, numbers and symbols for example ~#\/%^$£:}[*%*^1"£H^6784
This data is known as string or text.
Alphanumeric or Text/string is used to hold mobile phone numbers
In a computer telephone numbers are stored as text
The reason behind this is because the Phone number contains a leading 0 and spaces.

A Real number is one piece of Data with decimal places

Dates can be stored in many different forms
In the U.K it is written in the form of DD/MM/YYYY e.g 12/01/2001
However in the U.S It is written in the form of MM/DD/YYYY e.g 05/31/2006
